Idea on the walk to work: Hawaii 5-O remake. In the future. The Hawaiian islands are interconnected with undersea tunnels, makeshift spans of derelict naval vessels (wreckage of the Second Sino-Japanese War) and bits of pontoon bridges. Hawaii is an independent nation in accordance with the PRTO (Pacific Rim Treaty Organization, "per-tow") settlement to end the Pac Rim War. Occasionally ultra-nationalists from Southern California (now it's own state) make raids on the islands, but most of the time they just get turned back by the Ocean Patrol (fast attack amphibious jumpjets, cybernetically enhanced dolphins, humans modified with gills, hydrofoil aircraft carriers, etc). Hawaii is the hub of most of Pacific Rim trade and culture, a constantly evolving permentant autonomous zone (see Hakim Bey's TAZ). This idea is mainly limited to the opening credits: Hawaii 5-O theme, So. Cal. ultranationalist surfing into Honolulu on a stealth board in the dead of night, big zoom from the view of a super-precise spy satellite (grainy video of a person fleeing from multiple pursuers [MIB - Men In Black] into a huge crowd, little crosshairs over him and targetting vectors for the pursuers to catch him, etc), view from a MIB but with the same info: location and direction to fleeing target overlaying normal vision, fleeing person is caught and hustled into a waiting vehicle, crimelord in posh surroundings accepting gold bars for silicon chips, small Japanese man trading the chips for vials of neon blue gel packed in dry ice and metal cylinders, cops bust into a dark warehouse to find a cracked, empty vial amongst a bunch of thugs killed in a firefight, etc. |
